Oakland Projects revisited
This project draws on the work and practice of Suzanne Lacy to 'reactivate' Oakland Projects, a participatory series of artworks exploring youth, identity, politics and media depictions within youth groups of Oakland California.
Created in collaboration with the Whitworth Art Gallery and Manchester Academy, Oakland Projects Revisited brought together a series of workshops and talks between MMU and Manchester Academy students. While COVID19 did its best to stop the project, hindering shoots and public events, the results of the work include a transcontinental discussion between youth groups in Manchester and Los Angeles following the Black Lives Matter protests and an ongoing programme of engagement with Whitworth Art Gallery. More content will be available as the project progresses.
Please feel free to contribute to the project, we welcome your creative responses. More details can be found below in the instagram feed.
